Helping Clients Cope with Bias During the Job Search Process

Presented by Lakeisha Mathews

The NCDA 2019 Webinar series presents:

Helping Clients Cope with Bias During the Job Search Process

Presented by: Lakeisha Mathews

Are your students or clients ever concerned about the perceptions hiring managers will have of their name, sexuality, or religious affiliation?  Do your clients ask for your advice on how cultural identifiers should be presented on a resume or shared during an interview?  Despite the growing number of diversity hiring plans implemented across various sectors, job seekers still have concerns about facing bias during the hiring process.  In this webinar, participants will discuss how to coach and advise students on overcoming bias in the job search process. Various diversity variables will be explored and their impact on professionals documents, interviewing, and networking.

Whether the majority of your clients are underrepresented populations or not, this webinar is a must for every career development professional providing direct counseling, coaching or advising on employability skills and job searching.

You’ll Learn:

  • What cultural identifiers are and how they impact the job search process
  • Strategies for helping clients overcome bias during the job search
  • Recommendations for nurturing fair hiring practices in career development services centers.
