Lupe’s story
“The reason I also double majored with linguistics is because when I first came to the US, and I first had a sense that we were going to live here permanently, I was really embarrassed with my brother and my Mom and Dad because they had an accent. I tried to get away, to get rid of my accent because I felt that if you had an accent like ‘Ew, you don’t belong here.’ And I didn’t want anyone to think that about me and about my family.”
